Russell T Davies always says that we remember the TV shows we watch in our youth with more clarity and emotion than what we watched last week. So, with that in mind, thinking back o your childhood televisual years, what were your favourite and most-hated shows?
My favourite was a programme called Roger and Rottentrolls; basically a group of comedians writing a puppetry show set in a Yorkshire ghyll, with a lot of surprisingly adult-themed storylines (like politics, gambling and gender roles). It won a BAFTA and lasted four series, but hardly anyone remembers it apart from me!
And my least favourite, most-hated show has to be Barney the Purple Dinosaur. My god, he's a moron. Even as a toddler I hated everything about him. I don't even want to give him the gift of my time, so I'll stop now before I rant any more!
While I've heard of Roger and the Rottentrolls, I don't think I ever saw it. It might have been slightly after my time in terms of children's shows.
One show I do remember waking up early for on a Saturday morning was The Real Life Adventures of Professor Thompson. It was a cartoon about a time-travelling archaeologist. I wanted to be an archaeologist when I was little so I thought this show was the best thing ever! Nobody else ever seemed to have heard of it though, and I could never find anything about it online so I thought maybe I'd imagined the whole thing until eventually I found the opening titles on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch
Of course special mention has to go to Channel 5's The Tribe. Even if some of the acting was a bit...questionable, it was an awesome show that dealt with some pretty grown-up material (bulimia, addiction, rape) and had some amazing world building and storylines. The only show I've ever really sought out a fandom for, and am still involved with despite it finishing over a decade ago.
I don't remember any shows I particularly disliked, although the Moomins used to creep me out a bit.
I think my favourite would have to be Recess... I remember knowing which episode it was from the first few seconds :p. Special mention must be made to the Paddington Peas for their Amazing Theme song. Also, song related mention, would be Family Ness and Oaky Doke.
Shows I really didn't like... Ed Ed and Eddy, and Pepper Anne. Never got into those at all. :D
As a kid I was obsessed with Hogan's Heroes. Not a kids show. I don't know if it make it to the UK. It was a comedy about a WWII prisoner of war camp. I can't really explain why I liked it so much but I do know that it was probably one of my first words. According to my parent's I used to say Sha-sha-the-Hebo as a toddler a lot and they had no idea what I meant but when they told me this I knew it was Hogan's Heroes.
I hated Woody the Woodpecker cartoons. I just felt like there was something seriously wrong with Woody and it unsettled me.

I grew up watching Looney Tunes, mostly because that's what my parents grew up with. I was also really into Blue's Clues.
Barney and the Teletubbies were god awful! Even as a kid I didn't understand why anyone like them.
Funny enough, my parents didn't like me watching "violent shows" until I was a little older, so shows like The Simpsons were out of the question, but they were totally okay with me watching anime. I don't think they really understood it or what it was about, and so I started watching Dragon Ball when I was six or seven. (Having an older brother also helps.)
