I used to read loads of books every year, but recently have fallen out of the habit. A friend of mine very kindly bought my a copy of Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb, which I'm going to make a start on soon, and I'm hoping that will mark the beginning of more regular reading.
Does anybody have any recommendations for good books to read (of any genre)?
For my part, I would strongly recommend that everybody reads Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere. It's one of the best books ever written. Fact. :p
I have been on a bit of a classical Chinese literature binge recently, and I can highly reccomend The Watermargins: Outlaws of the Marsh. It is about a group of Robinhood-like figures who are wrongfully punished by corrupt officials and so form a "gallant fraternity" to oppose injustice and act on heavens behalf. You should be able to find a free pdf of the book online, fair warning, it can be a bit dense if you are not familiar with the background around its writing. I reccomend skimming the wikipedia page first.
That depends what you like I guess!
I'm a fantasy nut, and would say Brandon Sanderson and Patrick Rothfuss are both amazing. For Sanderson, the Mistborn series is probably a good place to start. Rothfuss is pretty straightforward, as The Kingkiller Chronicles are his only major works.
If you're into Star Wars, the Old Republic Novels are amazing! They technically fall into the 'Legends' category now, but they do a good job of expanding the universe anyway.

The Ancillary Trilogy by Ann Leckie! Ace main character (a ship's AI in a human body), fantastic world building, and it was recommended to me by a member of the Ace club at my college! Lovelovelove!!
